Posh field a strong side at Rushden and Diamonds, but a poor performance sees the home side lift the Maunsell Cup. Despite a lively start and a few decent chances, Darren Ferguson’s men never look like winning. Former Posh trialist Daryl Clare has the ball in the net in the 42nd minute, only for linesman to unfairly raise his flag for offside. A few minutes later, however, Tommy Williams gifts Rushden the opportunity to take the lead, and Jon Challinor duly obliges from 30 yards. Dean Keates levels proceedings with an inch-perfect free-kick, but substitute Dean McDonald grabs the winner for the home side following a slip by Craig Morgan.
