Posh begin their pre-season in England with a comfortable victory at Steve Castle’s makeshift St Albans City, despite missing manager Darren Ferguson and numerous first-team players with a bug. Ben Wright took his opportunity to play the entire game by scoring a hat-trick in 39 minutes. Posh had numerous opportunities to increase the lead as Sergio Torres and Rene Howe missed good chances in the first-half, while Scott Rendell missed twice from only a few yards out in the second. The home side’s best effort came when James McKeown spilled a speculative effort from Darren Quinton round the post, but the Posh keeper had few threats to deal with. It took young midfielder Billy Crook to grab a fourth, after Paul Bastock tipped Russell Martin’s cross against the bar.
