Peterborough Utd win 5-4 on penalties

Basic Information

Date 13th March 2010.
Stadium Calmont Road, Bromley, Borough of Bromley, London, England
Competition Under-18 Youth Alliance Cup (southern section, semi-final).

Posh rely on penalties for the second round in a row to reach the area final. Wayne Drummond denies Edward Adjei from close range in the opening minutes, but the hosts dominate the first half. Sam Cole manages to claw Kiernan Hughes-Mason’s header away from under the crossbar before John Marquis and Grant Ludford both hit the post. Neither side are able to find the net in the second half either. Matt Breeze is denied by a perfectly timed tackle by Chris Hegarty, while Omar Beckles and Ikenna Ofoche both come close at the other end. Hughes-Mason is denied in the dying moments by Cole following a scramble in the six-yard box. Posh start the penalties and convert all five; Millwall keep pace until their fifth, when Hughes-Mason sends the ball over the bar. "I think a draw was probably a fair reflection on the game and we went straight to penalty kicks. Everyone kept their nerve and it is great to be into the area final," said Head of Youth Dave Robertson.
