Posh continue their early start to pre-season with a high-scoring friendly at Top Field. Simon Rea opens the scoring after half an hour from close range, then Andrew Fotiadis doubles the lead following a neat one-two with Tony Shields. Before the break, however, Adam Newton concedes a penalty which Dean Brennan converts, then Matt Nolan, midway through a trial at Chesterfield, equalises following a blistering cross by Andy Douglas. Barry Fry replaces the entire team at half-time, only for the home side to take the lead, as Adam Parker heads home Chris Dillon's cross. Nevertheless, having had only two pre-season training sessions, Hitchin begin to tire and the Posh take advantage. Andy Clarke is played through by Richard Scott and levels by chipping the keeper, then Lee Clarke scores a twelve minute hat trick. Firstly he connects to Mark Coulson's cross, then heads homes, before converting a peanlty after Francis Green was brought down in the area by Kevin Evans.
