Posh’s good start to the season comes to an abrupt end at Dean Court. Bournemouth start the game strongly and Marc Pugh opens the scoring, easily beating Mark Little to Warren Feeney’s cross. Nana Ofori-Twumasi then makes a mistake and Pugh sets up Anton Robinson to place the ball past Joe Lewis. Posh manage to create a few chances on the counter-attack, but Craig Mackail-Smith and Aaron Mclean aren’t able to find a way past birthday-boy Shwan Jalal. Gary Johnson makes two changes at half-time, but to no avail. Charlie Lee is unable to deal with Pugh, who cuts the ball back into the path of Brett Pitman and the lead is extended. Robinson makes a double-block to deny Kelvin Langmead then George Boyd, before another mistake by Lee allows Pitman to round Lewis and grab his second. Langmead manages to bundle Grant McCann’s corner over the line, but Pitman completes his hat-trick soon after with a curling effort. Frustations begin to show as McCann and Boyd both join Mackail-Smith in the referee’s book. Both sides have a further chance to score, but neither Josh McQuoid nor Mackail-Smith can find the net. Johnson is left red-faced after the game: “Pathetic and embarrassing are the first two words to spring to mind”.
