In front of a disappointing crowd Posh are unlucky against a strong West Ham side. Inside the first minute John Cozens is nearly able to capitalise on Clive Charles's mistake, only for Bobby Moore to force him to shoot wide. Soon after, however, Tommy Robson cheakily chips Bobby Ferguson to take a lead. Posh continue to dominate, until controversy strikes on the half-hour. Pop Robson has the ball in the net with an overhead kick from Clyde Best's header, and referee Ray Toseland overrules his assistant, who flags for an infringement, to give the goal. Posh almost reply straight away as Keith Bradley's pass splits the defence, only for John Cozens to over-run the ball. Just before the break the visitors take the lead: Robson turns provider for Brooking. In the opening moments of the second half Drewery produces a fine double-block to deny Brooking and Best. Both sides continue create chances, but both Ferguson and Drewery match each other with expert saves.
