Posh move up to second with another convincing second-half performance. Gary Johnson keeps the side that knocked Cardiff City out of the League Cup, while Peter Reid makes four changes. Kelvin Langmead is close to opening the scoring, heading Grant McCann’s corner inches wide, then Craig Noone has two opportunities for Plymouth Argyle, but neither side can break the deadlock in the first half. On 55 minutes Craig Mackail-Smith, having been played through by Nana Ofori-Twumasi, fails to hit the target, but makes up for this minutes later by heading in McCann’s corner. Noone comes close to equalising, but Joe Lewis makes a smart save. George Boyd then misses a good opportunity, putting the ball over the bar at the back post, having been played through by Aaron Mclean. Mackail-Smith doubles the lead, firing past David Button from Tommy Rowe’s long pass. McLean completes the win with a header from another McCann corner. Substitute David Hibbert has a late chance to grab his first Posh goal, but is denied by Button.
