Posh’s season gets back on track following a disappointing weekend with a win over bottom-side Walsall. As George Boyd and Grant McCann are missing through suspension, Gary Johnson changes formation. Julian Gray and Darryl Westlake have early chances for the hosts, but Posh go in front when Ryan Bennett heads in from Arron Davies’s corner. The lead is quickly doubled, as Davies scores himself following good work from Mark Little and Craig Mackail-Smith. The first half finishes with Walsall on top: Richard Taundry and Jon Macken both miss chances. Soon after the break Clayton McDonald has the ball in the net but is ruled out for a foul; the deficit is reduced quickly though, as Gray turns in a cross from close range. Minutes later, however, Kelvin Langmead fires home following another Davies free kick. Chris Hutchings’s side dominate the end, but are unable to find a way through, culminating with Joe Lewis tipping Reuben Reid’s header over the bar. Johnson is happy after the result: “We had two days after what happened on Saturday to turn things around. We knew we could do it and the lads proved that out on the pitch. This goes down as a big win and it is great for the confidence in the camp.”
