Stockport County, having lost their last two matches 5-0 and without a goal in 4, are left the happier side following a draw in front of a poor crowd at Edgeley Park. Craig Mackail-Smith has an early chance having been sent through by Lee Tomlin, but Matt Glennon manages to save his effort. Some poor defending gives Paul Turnbull and David Poole chances for the home side, before Adam Griffin heads home from Robbie Williams’s cross. The lead doesn’t last long, however, as Aaron Mclean beats Glennon to turn in Tomlin’s cross. Before the break Joe Lewis turns Anthony Pulis’s shot over the bar then Mackail-Smith has the ball in the net, only to be ruled offside. In the second half both teams have further chances: George Donnelly and Ryan Bennett go close, then on 76 minutes McLean is sent clean through by Tomlin, only for Glennon to make another save. Both sides have further chances, but neither can find the back of the net. Gary Johnson isn’t too downbeat after the game: “We really should have got two or three. We’ve been scoring regularly but in this game we didn’t, but we live to fight another day.” A trip to Bury awaits the winner of the replay.
