Posh bow out of the cup on penalties. Spurs open the scoring: Fred Barber can't hold Darren Anderton's shot, and Nick Barmby taps home. Posh then pick up the pace, and equalise when Ian Walker spills the ball at Ken Charlery's feet after David McDonald's through-ball. Nevertheless, Walker redeems himself by saving at the feet of Charlery and Andy Furnell. In the second half Hazard taken off with an ankle and knee injury after a strong challenge from John McGlashan. Sol Campbell, standing in for Teddy Sheringham up front, hits the post with a close-range volley. The game goes to extra time; Anderton's shot rebounds off Barber, but the keeper is able to gather the loose ball. In the second half of extra time Darren Caskey fires straight at Barber again, then Charlery skims the bar after Walker saves at Furnell's feet. With neither side able to find a breakthrough, the match goes to penalties. Posh's hearts are broken, as 16-year-old Furnell's effort is turned against the post by Walker. Steve Sedgley completes a clean sweep for the home side.
