Icelandic youth international Helgi Daníelsson joined Posh in the summer of 1999 from second tier side ÍF Fylkir, and hit the headlines later that year when he was invited on-trial by Italian giants AC Milan. He made his début for Posh as a last minute substitute at Bristol City in October 2000, but did not feature in the first-team again until March. He played regularly during the 2001/02 season, but became unsettled during the following season and returned to ÍF Fylkir for a fee of £25,000 in May 2003. By this time the club had won promotion and taken the Icelandic cup 2 years running. Having become a full international he spent 3 seasons at home in Reykjavík, before moving to Sweden to join top tier side Östers IF for the 2006 season. Despite relegation, he has remained at the club for 2007 under the new management of former Kingstonian and Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Giles Stille.
